To achieve this, the bottles mold has been integrated with a proprietary organic additive, that accelerates the natural biodegradation of the bottle in biologically active landfills and anaerobic digesters.
The proprietary organic additive is designed to attract microbial activity within the landfill. As microorganisms consume the additive material, they excrete enzymes that break down the bottle.
This process results in Chloroyphyll Water’s bottle to be 100% recyclable, BPA-free, non-toxic and now, landfill biodegradable.
Chloroyphyll Water still recommends that its bottles are recycled – each case purchased online comes with a recycling bag – however if they end up in a landfill environment, then this biodegradation process prevents the bottles from becoming a pollutant.
Instead, the final result is biogases and inert humus (organic matter in soil) which can reportedly generate clean renewable energy.
While the actual rate of biodegradation will depend on environmental conditions and the biological activity of microorganisms surrounding the bottle, Chlorophyll Water believes 100% biodegradation will occur in up to 6.82 years.
