Total Corbion is a joint venture between Total (FR) and Corbion (NL). It recently (2023) changed its name to TotalEnergies Corbion.

TotalEnergies Corbion is the second biggest PLA producer after NatureWorks. However, China must have some big player too in the meantime … potentially shifting the top 3 producer positions.

PLA is a bio-based and biodegradable polymer made from annually renewable resources, offering a reduced carbon footprint versus many traditional plastics.

The TotalEnergies Corbion PLA brand is called Luminy.

The Luminy® PLA portfolio, which includes both high heat and standard PLA grades, is an innovative material that is used in a wide range of markets from packaging to consumer goods, fibers and automotive.

Total Corbion PLA, headquartered in the Netherlands, will start up a new production plant in Thailand in the second half of 2018. The company is a 50/50 joint venture between Total Energies and Corbion.

TotalEnergies Corbion was supposed to build a PLA plant in France but Corbion pulled out the plug at the very last minute canceling the plant project.

Stéphane Dion was the CEO Total Corbion PLA (2018). Now it’s Thomas Philipon since 2020.
