Word is that Saudi Arabia has asked Belgium for military aid in the Gulf, and honestly, it’s one of the most bizarre requests I’ve heard in 20 years. Saudi Arabia has endless wealth; they can buy any weapon or hire any mercenary group on the planet. Why on earth are they asking the Belgian army for support?
Not to be mean, but have you seen our National Day parade on July 21st? It’s hardly an elite show of force. No offense to my Belgian friends—I’ll stop there—but we simply don’t have the institutional backbone or the political leadership for this kind of conflict. We should stick to NATO mandates and nothing else.
As for selling weapons? Sure, let the manufacturers handle that independently. But there’s no need for the government to parade these deals in the press. It should be handled discreetly, not splashed across every newspaper. The whole situation just feels amateurish.
