PBAT is a fossil based co-polymer mixed with bio-based polymers such as PLA to make it compostable. PLA uses food crops such as corn and sugar cane and agricultural lands. PLA competes with food production.
Compostable plastics will contaminate the ‘fresh’ and organic compost stream.
Compostable plastic will generate microplastics in our food chain.
Compostable plastic will mutiply microplastic ingestions by humans.
Compostable plastic will irreversibly destroy agricultural soil and farm lands.
