Canada will fast-track approval of the proposed Pacific Link crude oil pipeline to its west coast, aiming to reduce dependence on the U.S. market. Ottawa says the one-million-barrel-a-day project could generate more than C$20 billion in annual GDP, create 140,000 jobs and expand exports to Asia. The federal review is targeted for completion by September 1, 2027, under Mark Carney.
Personal Remarks
Canada once wanted to reduce its dependence on oil. But after watching Europe struggle with expensive energy, weak security of supply and increasingly complicated alternatives, Ottawa seems to have drawn a different conclusion: perhaps abandoning pipelines was not such a brilliant idea after all.
