Parkside Wins StarPack Awards

For 60 years, the Starpack Awards have celebrated excellence in packaging and the fantastic work being done in process development and engineering, focusing on innovation and recognition of personal as well as corporate achievement.

The Starpack judges praised Parkside for making significant inroads into the development of home and industrial compostable laminates after creating the world’s first compostable coffee and crisp packs. The two solutions are fully accredited by TUV (formerly Vincotte) and are designed to break down within 26 weeks in a home compost environment.

Sales and Innovation Director at Parkside, Paula Birch, said: “Collaborating with both Percol and Two Farmers was extremely exciting as it gave us the chance to take our innovation to the next level. Compostable packaging is a significant step forward for the industry and this latest accolade proves it is extremely well received and seen as the way forward.”

Now in its 60th year, The Starpack Packaging Industry Awards is the UK’s premier annual awards scheme which recognises innovation in packaging design and technology and celebrates the work being done in process development and engineering.

Birch also commented: “The prestigious Starpack Awards programme is highly regarded in the industry, so this is an extremely proud moment for Parkside. It is a privilege to have our hard work rewarded and is a great follow up to our amazing win at the awards in 2018.”

The innovative solutions were created in partnership with Futamura, a provider of renewable and compostable cellulose films, which provide excellent oxygen, aroma and moisture barriers that extend the shelf life of the product, while maintaining optimum flavour, and form part of Park2Nature.
