Ursula von der Leyen is one of the most powerful politicians in Europe.
There is just one small problem: many Europeans apparently have no idea who she is.
At some point, somebody in Brussels has to stop the bullshit. You cannot endlessly lecture 450 million people about European democracy while half the room is still asking: “Sorry, who is Ursula?”
To her critics, von der Leyen can look like the ultimate Brussels contradiction: impeccably bourgeois in style, relentlessly technocratic in method, and permanently surrounded by plans, targets, regulations and five-year strategies.
Brussels may call that European governance.
Everyone else is still asking: “Ursula who?”
