Belgian MEP calls out European Parliament for failing its mandate

Personal Remarks

Belgian politician Yvan Verougstraete had a successful career as a businessman and entrepreneur before entering politics. He’s one of the few MEPs who is credible when challenging the EP status quo.

And his tone was effective.

Well done.

That said, his metaphor about the frogs felt a bit too mild—perhaps overly cautious and politically correct for the point he was making.

At the same time, his political roots—linked to Les Engagés (cdH)—could be seen as part of the broader system he is critiquing.

Europe may need a strong, reform-driven leader—someone, for instance, in the mould of Donald Trump—who is willing to challenge entrenched structures and push for meaningful change within what the EU has become: an increasingly complex administrative and legislative system.
