Amendments To Ban Bioplastics Bags in France

Two amendments have been submitted in French Parliament last Thursday to ban bioplastics bags in France.

Context

There’s currently a legislative proposal to “reduce spoilage and increase circularity” being discussed in the French Parliament  (Projet de Loi relatif à la lutte contre le gaspillage et à l’économie circulaire). The law will bans single-use plastic bags in supermarkets, including the bags you receive in the fruit and vegetables section.

Positive Advice

ADEME (Agency for Environment and Energy Management) suggested an exemption for bioplastics bags (biobased and biodegradable). They gave a positive advice for bioplastics bags.

Amendments

Two MPs, Barbara Pompili et Mr Damien Adam, doesn’t seem to agree with Ademe and have submitted amendments to remove the exemptions on bioplastics bags.

Remarks

It’s not looking good.
