The United States imposed an additional 50% tariff on certain Canadian polyethylene terephthalate (PET) resin imports from October 30. The measure covers high-viscosity PET, widely used in beverage bottles, regardless of whether it is virgin or recycled. Trade publication ICIS reports Canada exported $110.6 million of this PET grade in 2025. The tariff also applies to goods qualifying under USMCA.
