Brussels has told Romania to fix shortcomings in its offshore oil and gas safety legislation, arguing that national rules do not fully comply with EU requirements. The European Commission is pressing Bucharest to strengthen provisions governing offshore operations, emergency preparedness and accident prevention. The move comes as Romania expands Black Sea gas production and seeks a larger role in European energy security.
