I spoke to a guy who worked in wind turbine maintenance, and he told me that wind turbines are actually a rather dirty business — not nearly as environmentally friendly as many people think.
What I find disturbing is the sense that we are being misled. The real question is: why? Why are questionable solutions being promoted as if they were silver bullets? Unfortunately, the answer often seems to come down to greed.
There’s also something telling in the language we use. They rarely call it “clean energy”; instead, the term is “alternative energy.” In Europe, we prefer the label “renewable energy.”
The word renewable … was probably coined by BASF …. one of the biggest polluters on the planet.
