Dear Corporate Team, Board of Directors and senior executives at ENI,
I would like to offer a sincere apology for having previously used certain names and words to describe a company. I will not repeat those expressions here to avoid causing any further offence. At the time, I intended to make a light-hearted joke and bring some humour to my readers, but I did not fully consider that words can carry different cultural meanings in different countries.
What may seem harmless in one context can be hurtful in another, and I recognise that my attempt at humour may have caused discomfort or offence. For that, I am genuinely sorry.
I want to assure you that I will not make similar jokes again and will refrain from using such language in the future. Thank you for your understanding.
I also want to apologise to the senior corporate team at ENI. I realise that my words lacked respect, and I did not behave in the gentlemanly way I expect of myself. I was angry and frustrated at the time, and I let those feelings influence my tone. We are all navigating difficult times, but that is no excuse. I am committed to doing better moving forward. Your team is welcome to contact me with any words or phrases they’d like me to remove and explain why, and I’ll make the changes.
I will also remove the word ‘cartel’ from the ENI/Novamont category name on this website. It was completely inappropriate.
