European Commission censorship

The European Commission has sent a letter asking me to modify or remove the following article, warning that legal action could follow if I fail to comply.

European Commission DG Competition tried to cover up the Novamont cartel

ENI, the Italian oil giant, has asked me to remove the same article.

Out of more than 15,000 articles published on Bioplastics News, both ENI and the European Commission seem to object to the exact same one.

One could ironically argue that this is a curious coincidence — or perhaps a sign of aligned interests.

ENI also asked me to remove the following article: We’re looking for victims of Novamont Cartel

Historically, oil companies have always been supported and protected by politicians and considered as if they were above the law.

Ironically and to put it bluntly, the European Commission’s Green Deal was supposed to make an end to the unlimited political support to oil companies. But I think it’s just on paper. Old habits die hard.

ENI and Novamont (100% owned by ENI) have been condemned in Italy for unfair commercial practices and had to pay a fine of € 32 million (More: English Summary of the Novamont /ENI Cartel Judgment, ENI / Novamont Cartel Judgment – Insights and learnings (June 2025), ENI / Novamont Files)

Novamont (ENI) received more than €23 million in EU funding from the BBI JU and CBE JU (CBE JU replies to questions about Novamont and ENI Cartel) and ENI received a European Commission loan of € 500 million Eni vs European Investment Bank

ENI has also been condemned for a biofuel cartel: ENI is fined €336 million for Biofuel cartel

The European Commission asks me to remove the same article less than a week after ENI was condemned for its biofuel cartel in Italy. What a funny coincidence.

You may argue that the intention of the European Commission may look like a soviet style censorship.

Let me quote US President Kennedy because I think that what he said, to some extend, could be applied to the European Commission:

Its preparations are concealed, not published. Its mistakes are buried, not headlined. Its dissenters are silenced, not praised. No expenditure is questioned, no rumor is printed, no secret is revealed. It conducts the Cold War, in short, with a war-time discipline no democracy would ever hope or wish to match.

Sometimes, I have the impression that the European Commission is not always a very transparent organisation, for instance in the case of the Pfizergate and the missing SMS messages: EU Commission loses on all counts in Pfizergate legal case (FREE).
