Over the years Novamont has developed a highly interdisciplinary systemic approach in the bioeconomy, building bridges and interconnections with other sectors to accelerate the innovation process and the generation of new technologies.
It is around that reality that TracexNovamont, the open innovation initiative promoted by Cariplo Factory and Intesa Sanpaolo Innovation Center, was born to support the growth of projects in the circular bioeconomy sector, creating industrial synergies between Novamont and startups, companies and research projects.
The Trace x Novamont project
Are you a startup, company or represent a research project that offers innovative solutions in the Circular Economy ?
Can your initiative create new opportunities for industrial synergies for the expansion of the Bioeconomy supply chains ?
The goal of the Trace x Novamont Call For Proposal is to support the growth of innovative Circular Economy projects and the development of the Bioeconomy by creating synergies between the leading company in this sector in Italy and startups, companies and research projects.
Startups, Companies and Research Projects
Trace x Novamont, the initiative promoted and implemented jointly by Intesa Sanpaolo Innovation Center and Cariplo Factory, in collaboration with Novamont, is aimed at startups in the post-seed phase, companies and research projects, able to offer at least one of the following solutions:
- offer innovative solutions functional to Novamont’s specific activities and areas of interest;
- create new opportunities for industrial synergies for the expansion of the Bioeconomy supply chains, using Novamont products and processes.
The initiative supports the direct accompaniment of the transformation of the Italian economic system and the diffusion of new models of value creation in the collective interest, accelerating the transition to the Circular Economy in Italy and promoting social innovation and impact investing.
The thematic areas of the project
Participants in the Trace x Novamont initiative will have to operate within the following two areas of interest:
Cluster I – Solutions and technologies to support industrial processes
Industrial biochemistry: technologies, materials and innovative processes
- Innovative systems for the separation and purification of biochemicals
- Innovative CO 2 conversion systems and digestate in bio-based products of industrial interest
Valorisation technologies of lignocellulosic biomasses
- High efficiency and reliability systems for the energy valorisation of lignocellulosic biomass (including pre-treatment)
- Other lignocellulosic biomass enhancement technologies (eg conversion to fermentable sugars)
Agricultural biomass: precision farming systems and technologies
- Systems for the optimization of mechanization operations of agricultural activities (including collection)
- Sensors, tools and platforms for data collection in the field
- Use of products with low environmental impact in agriculture
Cluster II – Opportunities for expanding the supply chains of the bio-economy
Bioplastics: new developments and applications
- Partners interested in the use of compostable bio-plastics for a more sustainable packaging (eg in the food packaging sector).
Bio-lubricants: new developments and applications
- Partner interested in the application of biolubricants in different sectors (energy, shipbuilding, agricultural machinery, hydraulic systems, etc …)
Bio-cosmetics: new developments and applications
- Partner interested in the formulation of low impact cosmetic products obtained using biointermediates and / or active biomolecules derived from proprietary Novamont processes
Bio-products for the food industry: new developments and applications
- Partner interested in applying the active molecules of the oil extraction process for products for nutraceuticals and / or for the dairy sector (eg thistle flower rennet, milk from animals fed with thistle cake, etc).
Bio-products for the agro-food sector: new developments and applications
- Partner interested in the enhancement of protein cake and active molecules for food and animal nutraceuticals.
- Partner interested in the production of biostimulants from pressing panels.
Participation requirements and deadlines for the submission of applications
Participation in the initiative is subject to the following requirements:
Startups that comply with all the following requirements, cumulatively and not alternatively:
- have already developed a customer portfolio or have positively tested at least one prototype or have a marketable product / service;
- operate mainly within the EU;
- are based on initiatives and / or technologies with a level of TRL (Technology Readliness Level) between 5 and 8, as defined in the Annex of the Horizon 2020 – Work Program 2014-2015 of the European Commission;
- are new or have been established for less than 5 years from the date of publication of this announcement.
Companies that meet all the following requirements:
- have been established for at least 5 years from the date of publication of this Call;
- have already developed a customer portfolio or have positively tested at least one prototype or have a marketable product / service;
- operate mainly within the EU;
- are based on initiatives and / or technologies with a TRL level between 7 and 9, as defined in the Annex of the Horizon 2020 – Work Program 2014-2015 of the European Commission.
Research projects that meet the following requirement:
- have at least one representative who works or is enrolled in a doctoral program at a university, a research entity, a research center, or a technology park, even outside the Italian territory;
