Mitsubishi Chemical BioPBS Polymer Adopted for Comme des Garçons Bags

Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation announced that the Japanese fashion label Comme des Garçons Co., Ltd. has adopted shopping and wrapping bags made from MCC’s BioPBSTM plant-derived and biodegradable polymer.

In August this year, 19 stores around the world directly operated by CDG have started using the bags.

BioPBS™ is a plant-derived and biodegradable polymer developed and patented by MCC and manufactured by PTT MCC Biochem Company Limited (Head office: Bangkok, Thailand; President: Somsri Phanichrungruang), a 50-50 joint venture between MCC and PTT Global Chemical Public Company Limited. This is an environmentally friendly polymer, which is decomposed into water and carbon dioxide by living microorganisms in the environment.

Each year CDG uses millions of shopping and wrapping bags, and is switching them entirely to bags made from BioPBS™.

As MCC moves toward fulfilling the Mitsubishi Chemical Holdings Group’s vision of “Realizing KAITEKI,*” it continues to accelerate research and development and expand applications for biodegradable and plant-derived products such as BioPBS™ to help establish a recycling-oriented society and achieve UN Sustainable Development Goals.

*KAITEKI is an original concept devised by the Mitsubishi Chemical Holdings Group and denotes “the sustainable well-being of people, society and our planet Earth.”
