Almost half of the 7 million tons of sewage sludge generated in the U.S. every year are applied to land, including farm fields, and PFAS in the sludge can be taken up by the plants we eat or by farm animals eating grass or feed.
PFAS can also migrate into fruits, vegetables and grains that are irrigated with PFAS-contaminated water.
