Lucozade and Skynews Will Replace Plastic Bottles at Sport Events

Lucozade Sport will trial plastic-free edible seaweed packaging during running events

Lucozade Ribena Suntory has teamed up with Skipping Rocks lab to test its Ooho packaging.

Ooho is an edible packaging material produced by Skipping Rocks Lab and made from seaweed  that can be flavoured and coloured. Ooho breaks down in four to six weeks (100% biodegradable).

The first trial will take place during the Richmond Marathon on 16 September and Tough Mudder in West Sussex on 29 September. Ooho packaging will be given to participants to see their reaction.

Sky Ocean Ventures is an impact investment vehicle set up by Sky News that has invested in Skipping Rocks Lab.

Lucozade Ribena Suntory is a signatory of the UK Plastic Pact and has agreed to eliminate problematic or unnecessary single-use plastic packaging and ensure 100% of its plastic packaging is reusable, recyclable or compostable by 2025. Lucozade Ribena Suntory is also rolling out its Global Innovation Challenge asking innovators and entrepreneurs to find alternatives to plastic
