On October 23, the European Commission opened an antitrust investigation into Swiss minerals supplier Omya. Brussels suspects the company used exclusive purchasing obligations and exclusivity rebates to restrict rivals supplying calcium carbonate to paper manufacturers. The inquiry examines possible abuse of a dominant position under EU competition rules. Opening an investigation does not establish wrongdoing; no infringement has been proven.
