Is Dangote Part of a Cement Oligopoly in Nigeria?

Written by

·

Nigeria’s cement industry is dominated by Dangote, BUA and Mangal, according to an opinion article in The Guardian. Despite abundant raw materials, cement remains expensive while producers report substantial profits. Dangote earned ₦1 trillion in 2025, while BUA made ₦356 billion. The author criticises limited competition, questions market pricing and calls for stronger antitrust enforcement and cheaper imports.

Personal Remarks

The oil magnate is also a cement magnate? Dangote’s dominance in Nigeria’s cement industry raises questions about market concentration and competition. Could similar concerns eventually emerge regarding his growing oil business?
