Chinese independent refiners have sharply increased purchases of Iraqi and Qatari crude after Iranian supplies fell. Traders say they bought 15–20 million barrels for October and November delivery. Iranian exports to China dropped to about 590,000 barrels per day in September, the lowest since January 2023, while higher crude costs are squeezing Chinese refining margins.
