EU Ends Plastic Waste Export Carousel

The EU is moving toward a broader ban on waste exports to non-OECD countries, building on tighter plastic-waste rules already entering force. From November 2026, plastic waste exports to non-OECD destinations will be banned for at least two and a half years, increasing pressure on Europe to process and recycle more of its own waste domestically.

Personal remarks

I spoke with people directly involved in waste-export trafficking and reviewed photographs, videos and detailed records showing how funds were moved through three or four companies in different countries. Based on the material I saw, I consider the account credible: EU funds were allegedly diverted and laundered through these structures, with some of the money ending up financing terrorist groups in Africa.
