The Trump administration is reportedly discussing a 100-year lease giving the US an ownership stake in Venezuelan oil fields containing around 90 billion barrels of proven reserves. American and other private companies could develop the fields, returning additional revenues to Venezuela. The proposed arrangement would cover more than a dozen fields and potentially give US companies long-term access to the world’s largest oil reserves.
