Kazakhstan PP Exports to EU Surge 67% as EU Producers Struggle

Kazakhstan is strengthening its position in the European polypropylene market as domestic production rises and exports to the EU accelerate.

Kazakhstan Petrochemical Industries (KPI) produced 248,400 tonnes of polypropylene between January and July 2026, an increase of 13.4% year-on-year, according to Interfax-Kazakhstan.

More significantly, PP exports to the European Union surged 67% to 110,600 tonnes during the period.

KPI operates a 500,000-tonne-per-year polypropylene complex in Atyrau.

The growing volumes come as European polymer producers struggle with high energy and production costs, weak demand and increasing import pressure, highlighting the competitive challenge facing Europe’s petrochemical industry.
