Marco Astorri, the Golden Boy of Bioplastics

Marco Astorri was the golden boy of bioplastics.

Marco Astorri had it all …. groundbreaking technology, growing markets, and a strong corporate structure. Contracts were pouring in, and Bio-on seemed years ahead of the competition in the race to commercialize PHA bioplastics.

Marco Astorri was destined to become the leading figure of the PHA bioplastics revolution. But just as Bio-on reached its peak, the company was taken from him, bringing one of the sector’s most remarkable success stories to a dramatic end.

Marco Astorri … Italian Tycoon.

Marco Astorri was the greatest entrepreneur in bioplastics history — a visionary who combined technological ambition with real business acumen.

With Bio-on, Marco Astorri positioned himself as a global pioneer in PHA bioplastics, years ahead of many competitors in the race toward sustainable materials.

Bio-on was widely seen as one of the first bioplastics startups to scale at exceptional speed, expanding its ambitions across multiple industrial applications in a very short time.

Bio-on was becoming a trade name.

At its peak, it positioned itself not only as a materials innovator, but as a company aiming to diversify its technology across several industrial fields, pushing the boundaries of what a bioplastics startup could attempt in terms of growth and market reach.

Bio-on was the biggest competitor of Novamont . One ring, two athletes fighting for the ‘bioplastic world champion’ title. Bio-on was going to win the title. And then …

Bio-on became the target of a coordinated financial attack originating from New York. An investment firm managed by Italians — which published a highly critical report on Bio-on while allegedly holding short positions against Bio-on’s company stock.

The impact was immediate and devastating: Bio-on lost around 80% of its market value within just 48 hours, triggering one of the most dramatic collapses ever seen in the bioplastics sector.

Bio-on was ultimately placed under the control of the Italian judicial authorities, and its assets were later sold at auction for a fraction of their former valuation.

Meanwhile, Marco Astorri was placed under house arrest during 5 days to block him from saving his company. This caused a dramatic fall for one of the most prominent figures in the bioplastics industry.

Eni and Novamont Unfair Commercial Practices

In an unrelated matter …. ENI and Novamont were both fined by the Italian AntiTrust Dpt for unfair commercial practices and had to pay a fine far above € 350 million.

Conspiracy Theory

Me, Axel Barret (Founder and Chief-Editor of Bioplastics News), I believe in the following ‘conspiracy theory’:

One conspiracy theory tells the tale of a coordinated campaign orchestrated against Bio-on, allegedly and potentially involving powerful interests linked to Novamont and Eni.

Disclaimer: For legal purposes, and to protect my ass I need to add the following: This statement is a conspiracy theory.

Sometimes you need to take a stance — when the truth feels buried under noise and power. You can quote me on the following tale:

The execution was done without justice, A daylight robbery, A hold Up.

Italian princess … ‘Bio-on’ … was executed by a gang called … the Sicilian Crime Syndicate … consisting of 3 Judges and the local Sheriff … Eni Versalis … also Known as “the Slapper”.

Eni Versalis was a village bastard of the Napoleonic armies. A local trickster, thief, proxenete and racketeer who also happened to work as part time limousine driver in Dallas. Eni was an ex-convict.

He was married to a certain … PorcaPutana … an old drunken whore who ran the local brothel. They had a daughter …. ‘Novamonta’ …. who ended up running … and working … in the brothel.

They were called the “Sycilian Crime Syndacat”. They pillaged other villages such as Greenwashing, EU Bank, Kromabatch, Symphony Environmentals, Kenia, Nigeria, Gaza and Venezuela.

The Syndicat eventually also sued the chief editor of the local newspaper for reporting on their chronicles.
