Personal Remarks
Some politicians from the old guard, such as Joe Biden, seemed comfortable returning to a Cold War–style geopolitical framework.
For them, it was familiar territory — almost a kind of comfort zone.
It also shifted attention away from difficult domestic issues, while increased military spending and arms contracts created economic and political incentives within their own systems.
From this perspective, the policies of the Biden administration and the EU could be interpreted less as being primarily about helping the Ukrainian population, and more about expanding Western influence while simultaneously reducing Russia’s sphere of influence.
