Novamont and ENI were fined €32 million by the Italian Antitrust Authority for unfair commercial practices (Read more: Antitrust Imposes Over €32 Million Fine on Novamont and Eni for Dominant Position in Biodegradable Bag Market)
Separately, ENI was fined more than €330 million by the Italian antitrust authority for its involvement in a biofuel cartel in Italy (Read more: L’Antitrust ha multato per 937 milioni Eni, Esso, Ip, Q8, Saras e Tamoil, per essersi accordate sul prezzo del carburante).
And now comes the million-dollar question: did the unfair commercial practices stopped at the Italian border?
Now hypothetically, imagine the following ….
Do you think oil and plastic companies like ENI (owner of Novamont) would be able to legally intimidate journalists and NGOs?
Well, It’s called a SLAPP … A Strategic Lawsuit Against Public Participation … and ENI has won the ‘Slapp Addict of the year 2025‘ award (ENI wins the SLAPP Bully award 2025).
Do you think it’s possible that ENI hires consultants and private investigators to spy on their adversaries, journalists, NGOs, politicians, etc?
Well, ENI paid €377.000 to an organisation who has been stealing and selling tax data and police information on Italian politicians and businessmen (ENI linked to espionage scandal).
What about the European Commission? Are they independent?
Well, remember the EU Single Use Plastic Directive? The OXO ban, the OXO cabal …(Read more: The Anti Oxo History)
Sometimes I wonder if legislations such as the EU SUPD (EU single use plastics directive) and it’s push for ‘compostable plastic bags’ are intended to serve commercial interest instead of serving the common interests.
I mean ENI and Novamont have been condemned for unfair commercial practices regarding biofuel and bioplastics in Italy…. and in the meantime, Novamont has become the European leader of compostable plastic bags in Europe.
