The carbon footprint dilemma of the French alps

Written by

·

7 % of French citizens are skiing and 93 % of French citizens are not.

Most French ski stations are visited by non french tourists; some stations have a 70 to 80 % non-french guest occupancy.

One of this ski station is the famous ‘Chamonix’ whose guests mainly come from outside of Europe.

60 % of the GHG emissions of the French Alps are generated from transport and mobility.

French ski station cannot survive without public funding.

93 % of the French people aren’t skiing, but 100 % of French tax payer are contributing to maintain the ski stations open.

To make a long story short – without public funding, the French ski stations would have to close. One could say that french tax payer money is used to produce extra GHG.

To be consisten with the Green Deal, we should shut down the French ski stations….

Or, I have a better idea: we get rid of the Green Deal and send Ursula von der ‘bloody pain in the ass’ back to Germany where she belongs.
