Compostable Tray ‘does not fit in our current waste system’

The program states that the trays made from PLA (polylactic acid) and bearing the seedling logo, turn out to be not composted by waste processors, but burned.

Coop decided to stop using the containers, according to the program.

Van Asselt said: “This compostable container does not fit well in our current waste system.”

Packaging made from 100 percent recycled material

Coop will reconsider recycled content packaging.

Van Asselt said that the supermarket chain is switching to a “packaging made from 100 percent recycled material, which can also be recycled” for the organic meat assortment.
