In 2010, Taghleef developed NATIVIA ® range, a biodegradable and industrially compostable (according to the European standard EN 13432) packaging solution made from renewable raw materials (PLA), to address resource depletion and help society shift away from dependency on fossil fuels.
Taghleef wants to steer the flexible packaging industry towards more sustainable solutions and offer consumers products with a lower carbon footprint.
Moreover, As proposed in Ellen Mac Arthur Foundation’s report “The New Plastic Economy”, “compostable packaging can help return organic nutrients to the soil in applications that are prone to be mixed with organic contents after use”.
The NATIVIA ® product range has become quite wide during the years and today offers films with different aesthetical aspects: transparent, solid white, white voided matt and metallized. Metallized films provide barrier to humidity and oxygen, without compromising on compostability.
NATIVIA® range includes also grades designed for special applications, such as improved heat resistance films and IML (injection molding labels).
The NATIVIA ® films offer the following properties:
- High mechanical strength
- Very strong seals
- Excellent transparency and gloss
- Consistent surface energy (37mN/m) allowing for good printability
- High moisture transmission rate
- Low aroma transmission rate
- Anti-fog properties
- Paper-like dead fold
- Excellent twist
- Alcohol, fat and oil resistance
Study conducted by Fraunhofer Research Institute for Process Engineering and Packaging proves the excellent barrier properties of NATIVIA ® against mineral oils migration: mineral oil saturated hydrocarbons (MOSH) and mineral oil aromatic hydrocarbons (MOAH).
NATIVIA ® films are manufactured in accordance with European food contact legislation and comply with European Regulation (EC) 1935/2004 and Regulation (EU) 10/2011 and FDA (US) food contact legislation.
NATIVIA ® is produced in Taghleef Industries’ Italian plant and, since its inception, food retailers have chosen NATIVIA® films to differentiate their products from the competition using packaging as a marketing tool towards increasingly environmentally keen consumers.
Among NATIVIA® applications we can name : windows for paper bread bags, fresh produce and pasta packaging, candies wrapping, greeting cards envelopes, adhesive tapes. What will be the next NATIVIA ® application? We’re looking forward to discover it!
