Nassau County, New York, May Ban Styrofoam Soon

Written by

·

Nassau County is a county in the U.S. state of New York.

Nassau County Legislator Denise Ford is sponsoring the bill. She says she knows it may cost business like more money to use different products, but there is a bigger cost to damaging Nassau County’s environment.

In addition to getting rid of plastic foam products, the bill also aims to reduce the amount of trash in all of Nassau County.

The Big Cheese food truck owner Chrissa Schmerler says she is all for the changes, but it will be more expensive for her and she hopes she won’t have to increase her prices.

If it is approved, the law would take effect in January. Violators could be fined from $500-$2,500.
