Novamont

Novamont is an industrial company whose roots lie in the Montedison School of Materials Science and was set up in 1989 with a view to implement the ambitious project of a few researchers: to integrate chemistry, agriculture and the environment.

Novamont encourages a new model of sustainable development and the transition from a product-based economy to a system-based economy, from a dissipative to a conservative approach to resources, through the use of renewable feedstock for the production of bioplastics for specific applications with a low environmental impact.

Living Chemistry for Quality of Life

This vision is to develop materials and biochemicals through the integration of chemistry and agriculture, by starting up third-generation biorefineries in the local areas and providing application solutions that ensure efficient use of resources throughout their entire life cycle, with advantages for the social, economic and environmental system.

Products

Novamont MaterBi

MATER-BI can be processed with the most common conversion technologies used for traditional plastics.

  • Matrol-Bi
novamont matrol bi

MATROL-BI is a line of biolubricants and rapidly biodegradable greases obtained from renewable resources.

The MATROL-BI line comprises four kinds of products: hydraulic fluids, greases, transmission fluid and dielectric fluids.

We work alongside our customers to come up with products that meet their needs and with a view to the continual improvement of both technical and environmental performance.

  • Celus-Bi
Novamont Celus bi

CELUS-BI is our innovative family of ingredients for the cosmetics sector, made from renewable raw materials.

CELUS-BI is made with renewable European crops synergic with food crops and which respects the specificities of local areas.

Moisturizers, shampoos, foundation, lipsticks, are just some examples of the numerous applications of these innovative bio-based ingredients, combining high performance and low levels of environmental impact.

Mater-Bi Application Technologies

  • Filming

MATER-BI can be made into film using traditional filming machines, with lower extrusion temperatures compared to standards. In relation to the specific applications, different MATER-BI grades are available, which give origin to biodegradable and compostable films

  • Thermoforming

Mater-Bi® can be used to produce thermoformed trays and other rigid containers which are used to package read-to-eat food products. This packaging can be thrown away together with food waste in the same container and disposed of at composting facilities.
It can also be used to make compostable pots for nursery gardens.

  • Fillers

With this technology Novamont has developed a new family of packaging products that have a low environmental impact because they are made from completely biodegradable and water-soluble natural materials (EN 14987 Plastics – Evaluation of disposability in waste water treatment plants – Test scheme for final acceptance and specifications).

  • Extruded Profiles

With MATER-BI it is possible to produce, on traditional extrusion lines, numerous applications such as, trays and other rigid or semirigid containers and woven nets for the packaging of food products

  • Extrusion Coating and Lamination

MATER-BI is suitable for multipurpose Extrusion Coating and Extrusion Lamination of several substrates (i.e. paper, board, plastics, aluminium, tissues and non wovens)

  • Injection Systems

Different objects in MATER-BI can be realized with this technology, such as cutlery, pens, gadgets, clips for agriculture, bones and other objects for the entertainment of pets

  • Fillers

With MATER-BI is possible to obtain foamed products for packaging (Loose Fillers), containing starch and fully biodegradable and water-soluble

MATER BI CERTIFICATIONS

  • Biodegradability, meaning a material’s capacity to be converted into carbon dioxide (CO2) through the action of microorganisms, under the same process occurring in natural waste.
  • Disintegrability, namely fragmentation and invisibility in the final compost (absence of visual contamination).
  • Absence of negative effects on the composting process.
  • Almost complete absence of heavy metals and the absence of negative effects on compost quality.
